Southwest Model A's was started by a group of people who have a passion for Model A cars.  Founders of Southwest Model A's are Ray Gabaldon, John Gibbs, Matt Raikes, Paul Caleca, Blaine Kukowski, and Vicky Lujan Gibbs.  They were later joined by Lynnie Combest, David Raikes, Joe Baird and Steve Montgomery to make up the Southwest Model A's board members.  Newest Board Member Welcome Scott Yoder.

MAFCA approached John Gibbs at the 2018 MAFCA National Convention in Reno, NV for the possibility of hosting a convention in New Mexico. MAFCA in 2021 was looking for a group for hosting the 2024 convention.  MAFCA notified John by email about hosting the 2024 convention in New Mexico. John then presented it to Ray Gabaldon, Matt Raikes, Paul Caleca, Blaine Kukowski, and Vicky Lujan Gibbs.  The group agreed to host the MAFCA 2024 National Convention.  MAFCA agreed to make them a Special Interest Group (SIG).  It was approved by the MAFCA board, and Southwest Model A’s became a Special Interest Group on April 30, 2022.
